Standard of Competence
1. Understanding scientific procedure to learn natural objects by using tools

Basic Competence
1.1 Describe physical quantities in daily life and group them in fundamental and derivated physical quantities

Indicators
1.1.1        Identify some daily life activities included to measurement process
1.1.2        Describe what is measured, what is used to measure, and how to measure in the identified measurement process
1.1.3        Describe the definition of measurement
1.1.4        Describe the definition and give examples of physical quantities
1.1.5        Differentiate fundamental and derivated physical quantities
1.1.6        Identify appropriate units for each quantities

1.1.11    Draw a condition presenting vector quantities
1.1.12    Determine the resultant of two vectors

Learning Objectives
            Students are able to:
1.      Describe the definition of physical quantities, units, and measurement by observing their daily life activities
2.      Differentiate fundamental and derivated physical quantities through their examples
3.      Identify appropriate units for each quantities included to SI units and another units
4.      Convert some SI units to another units and vice versa by using informations they got from books or internet
5.      Define the terms of scalar and vector quantities through simple demonstrations
6.      List the vectors and scalars from distance, displacement, speed, velocity, time, acceleration, mass, and force
7.      Draw a condition presenting vector quantities through simple demonstrations
8.      Determine the resultant of two vectors by a graphical method

Learning Materials
            Physical quantities and units

Learning Strategies
1.      Learning model           : Direct Instruction
2.      Learning method         : Discussion and Demonstration

Learning Activities
FIRST MEETING (Time Allotment: 2 X 35’)
a.       Opening
Teacher motivates students by asking:
·         What is your body height and weight?
·         Have you ever got a fever? How did you know you were getting a fever?
·         Have you ever used thermometer?
·         Have you ever seen the dashboard of your family car? Is there something named speedometer? What is its function?
b.      Main Activities
·         Teacher asks students to make a group of three or five students and gives them worksheets
·         Students observe their daily life activities which is included the measurement process at their school, house, or environment
·         Students tell one of the measurement processes they have observed about what is measured, what is used to measure, and how to measure it
·         Teacher explains the definitions of measurement, physical quantities, and units and their examples
·         Teacher explains the definitions of fundamental and derivated quantities
·         Students group the physical quantities they have observed into fundamental and derivated quantities
·         Teacher explains the definitions of  SI units and their examples for each quantities
·         Students search information about another units which is used in different country through internet or books
·         Students convert another units they have searched into the SI units and vice versa
c.       Closing
·         Teacher asks students to submit their worksheets
·         Teacher guides students to summarize their lesson today

SECOND MEETING (Time Allotment: 2 X 35’)
a.       Opening
Teacher motivates students by asking:
·         Have you ever had one favourite thing which is also the favourite thing of your brother or sister (For example: pillow, doll, or blanket)?
·         Have you ever helped anybody to push his/her car?
·         Have you celebrated our independence day by following “Tarik Tambang”?
b.      Main Activities
·         Teacher asks students to make group of three or five students and gives them worksheets
·         Students draw a map of their way to school from their house and tell in front of the class about what vehicle they used to school, how far the way to school from their house and the explanation of the map that they have made
·         Teacher asks two students to  hold each end of a pencil tightly and take it to different directions
·         Teacher asks two students to hold different side of a table, and push it to the same direction
·         Teacher asks some students to explain what have been demonstrated by those two students and asks other students to give comments
·         Teacher describe the definition of scalar and vector quantities and give students the examples
·         Teacher guides the students to draw a vector graph presenting the demonstration done by two students
·         Teacher guides the students to find the way how to determine a resultant of two vectors
·         Teacher modifies the graph and guides the students to find the way how to determine a resultant of the modified vectors
c.       Closing
·         Teacher asks students to submit their worksheets
·         Teacher guides students to summarize their lesson today
